Description

Feast of the Madonna of Manipuglia

The charm that the Madonna of Manipuglia has always held over the people of Crucoli is something extraordinary.

Manipuglia is not just a corner of paradise; the peace of the place invites everyone to a meeting with God.

The attachment to this enchanting place and to the figure of Our Mother of Manipuglia grows ever stronger among the people of Crucoli and the many pilgrims who flock to these sacred sites, especially during the Patronal Feast held in Crucoli on the third Sunday of May, the “Feast of the Madonna of Manipuglia.” Hundreds of pilgrims arrive at the Sanctuary of Manipuglia for the celebrations in honor of the Madonna. It is one of the oldest known festivals. It begins with a novena held early in the morning, during which pilgrims walk to the sanctuary singing popular songs of very ancient origin.

On the day of the feast, the statue of the Madonna of Manipuglia, kept in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Crucoli, is carried to the sanctuary, about 4 kilometers from the town, accompanied by a multitude of people. Once they arrive at the sanctuary, after the celebration of Mass, the actual pilgrimage begins, continuing until late at night. On Monday morning, the Madonna is brought back to Crucoli, again followed by a great crowd.

During these days, in addition to the religious celebrations, there is also a secular festival featuring many square games, a market, performances, and above all, beautiful fireworks.
